What is the etiquette of Matcha?

Matcha is a special type of powdered green tea that comes from Japan. Drinking matcha is a traditional and special way of enjoying tea that has been around for hundreds of years.

Here are some tips on the etiquette of matcha that you might find useful:

  1. Bow: When you are offered a bowl of matcha, it is polite to bow and thank the person who made it for you.
  2. Hold the bowl with both hands: When you receive your bowl of matcha, it is polite to hold it with both hands. This shows respect and appreciation for the tea.
  3. Sip slowly: When you drink matcha, you should take small sips and enjoy the taste. Don't drink it all at once, as this is considered impolite.
  4. Don't slurp: Unlike other types of tea, you should not slurp matcha. Instead, drink it quietly and respectfully.
  5. Clean the bowl: When you are finished drinking your matcha, it is polite to clean the bowl with a special cloth. This shows respect for the tea and the person who made it for you.

Remember, matcha is a special and important part of Japanese culture. By following these etiquette tips, you can show your respect for this traditional tea and the people who serve it to you.

Additional details about the etiquette of matcha:

Use a whisk: Matcha is traditionally prepared using a special bamboo whisk called a chasen. This whisk is used to mix the matcha powder with hot water to create a frothy and creamy tea.

Add hot water gradually: When making matcha, it is important to add hot water gradually to the powder and whisk it quickly to create the froth. This ensures that the matcha is properly mixed and has the right consistency.

Offer tea to others: When you are making matcha for others, it is polite to offer them tea first before drinking it yourself. This shows that you respect their presence and that you are honored to share the tea with them.

Hold the bowl with the right hand: When drinking matcha, it is traditional to hold the bowl with your right hand and place it on your left palm. This allows you to appreciate the texture and temperature of the tea while also showing respect for the person who served it to you.

Enjoy it in silence: Drinking matcha is a quiet and meditative practice that is often done in silence or with soft background music. This allows you to fully appreciate the taste and aroma of the tea, as well as the peacefulness of the moment.

Overall, the etiquette of matcha is rooted in respect, appreciation, and mindfulness. By following these traditions and customs, you can fully immerse yourself in the beauty and elegance of this special tea.

Smooth like silk on the palate. The scent of the roasted rice and matcha intemingling like the finest fragrance.

Excellent sencha. I did not taste any bitterness at all.

My favourite

The taste is balanced And not too bitter

Thank you so much for sharing your taste review. :)

Balanced of sweetness and bitterness

This one is the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness for me. I am not fan of bitterness of tea but this combination of sweetness and little bitt of bitterness makes me feel energetic. I smell and taste the freshness with every sip in the morning. it contains 20 grams I feel the quantity is not too much. So now I wanna try their other matcha to compare.

Hello, Amber.
Thanks for leaving a thoughtful review about our matcha.

My Favorite Matcha

I have used this Koiai matcha for 3 years now since my Japanese friend recommend. I love it! It is the best I have tasted. It's fresh and nutty as well. I used to drink coffee every morning but now I make my own Matcha lattes at home. It is very dense because it is high quality ceremonial matcha so make sure you sift matcha for creamy and foaming.

Thank you for loving KOIAI Matcha. We will share this great review with our farmers. Thank you again.

Lacking customer service

I reached out twice to Osada Tea regarding my tea order, once before I bought the tea and once after regarding the discount that I did not apply and the first time a question about radiation. I never heard from anybody on either of my questions. Also the tea that I ordered tastes really bad and I don’t know why but I just can’t drink it so I was a bit of a waste of money for me and I will not be re-ordering
