Let's Get GENMAICHA for your cup of Japanese tea

Genmaicha is a traditional Japanese tea that is made by combining green tea leaves with roasted brown rice. It is also known as "popcorn tea" due to the toasted rice grains popping during the roasting process, resembling popcorn.

The origin of Genmaicha dates back to the 15th century, where it was consumed by the poorer class as a way to stretch their tea supply by adding rice to it. However, it soon became a popular drink among the higher classes for its unique flavor and aroma.

The combination of green tea leaves and roasted brown rice gives Genmaicha a nutty and slightly sweet taste. The roasted rice also provides a unique, toasted flavor that sets it apart from other Japanese teas. The green tea leaves used in Genmaicha are typically of high quality, such as sencha or bancha, which contribute to the tea's delicate and refreshing taste.

In addition to its flavor, Genmaicha also offers numerous health benefits. The green tea leaves used in Genmaicha are rich in antioxidants and may help reduce the risk of heart disease, while the roasted rice provides essential nutrients such as fiber and vitamin B.

To prepare Genmaicha, hot water is typically poured over the tea leaves and rice in a teapot or tea infuser. The tea is then steeped for around 1-3 minutes, depending on the desired strength. It is typically enjoyed hot, but can also be served chilled in the summer months.

Genmaicha is a unique and flavorful Japanese tea that offers a range of health benefits. Its combination of green tea leaves and roasted brown rice make it a favorite among tea enthusiasts worldwide.

In addition to its distinctive flavor and health benefits, Genmaicha also has a rich cultural history in Japan. The tea is often served during traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, where it is considered a symbol of hospitality and respect for guests.

In Japanese culture, Genmaicha is also associated with the concept of wabi-sabi, which emphasizes finding beauty in imperfection and simplicity. The tea's combination of green tea leaves and roasted brown rice reflects this aesthetic, as it was originally a way to make use of leftover rice and stretch the limited supply of tea.

Genmaicha is also a popular tea for pairing with food. Its nutty and slightly sweet flavor pairs well with savory dishes such as sushi or tempura, as well as sweet treats like mochi or wagashi.

There are many variations of Genmaicha available, with different types of green tea leaves and rice blends. Some Genmaicha may also include additional ingredients such as matcha powder or toasted sesame seeds for added flavor and complexity.

In recent years, Genmaicha has gained popularity outside of Japan as well, with tea enthusiasts worldwide seeking out its unique flavor and health benefits. It is readily available at specialty tea shops and online retailers, making it easy to enjoy this traditional Japanese tea from the comfort of your own home.

Overall, Genmaicha is a tea that offers a delicious taste, cultural significance, and numerous health benefits. Whether you are a seasoned tea enthusiast or new to Japanese teas, it is definitely worth trying!

My favourite

The taste is balanced And not too bitter

Thank you so much for sharing your taste review. :)

Balanced of sweetness and bitterness

This one is the perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness for me. I am not fan of bitterness of tea but this combination of sweetness and little bitt of bitterness makes me feel energetic. I smell and taste the freshness with every sip in the morning. it contains 20 grams I feel the quantity is not too much. So now I wanna try their other matcha to compare.

Hello, Amber.
Thanks for leaving a thoughtful review about our matcha.

My Favorite Matcha

I have used this Koiai matcha for 3 years now since my Japanese friend recommend. I love it! It is the best I have tasted. It's fresh and nutty as well. I used to drink coffee every morning but now I make my own Matcha lattes at home. It is very dense because it is high quality ceremonial matcha so make sure you sift matcha for creamy and foaming.

Thank you for loving KOIAI Matcha. We will share this great review with our farmers. Thank you again.

Lacking customer service

I reached out twice to Osada Tea regarding my tea order, once before I bought the tea and once after regarding the discount that I did not apply and the first time a question about radiation. I never heard from anybody on either of my questions. Also the tea that I ordered tastes really bad and I don’t know why but I just can’t drink it so I was a bit of a waste of money for me and I will not be re-ordering
