This OG GYOKURO OKUMIDORI from Tenryu, Haruno in Shizuoka, Japan, is shade-grown for 20-25 days, giving it a taste of intense freshness, grassiness, and umami.

Roasted lightly to a level 5, its bright crystal shade includes a faint greenish hue, and its high caffeine level ensures a long-lasting energy experience.

This special blend was crafted with an Isagawa flavor in mind.

Instruction:

For 1 serving
(1) Amount of tea leaves: 1.5 tsp (6g) (0.21oz)
(2) Add 100ml (3.38oz) hot water 50℃ (122℉)
(3) Steeping time: 140 seconds (2min 20sec)

Characteristics

The Okumidori is a natural hybrid of Yabukita and Shizauoka Zairai 16, offering a balanced taste profile with notable umami and cool notes, perfect for production of Gyokuro and Matcha teas.

Covered for three weeks prior to harvest, this variety produces a pronounced umami flavor.

Special Notes

The tea leaves boast a heavy consistency, with a dark green shade exuding an unmistakable Okumidori character.

The initial sip carries the intense freshness from the first tea leaves, complemented by a touch of herby grassiness and umami.

The gentle throat-feel is more reminiscent of green tea than gyokuro, leaving a lingering rich umami in the mouth for a truly sublime experience.

The story behind of production

Gyokuro is selectively covered for approximately three weeks prior to harvest to slowly maximize its umami content.
